2:13 a.m. in Lincoln County, Maine, a routine traffic stop by Waldoboro Police Department Officer Zachary Curtis became much more. The incident is under investigation, but allegedly 18-year-old Gregori Jackson, a passenger, leapt out of the car and fled into the woods. Officer Curtis followed. Allegedly there was a confrontation, a weapon was fired, and Gregori Jackson is now dead. Officials speaking on behalf of the Attorney Gerneral's office refused to confirm any details. According to the Jackson family lawyer, Roger Katz, Gregori was unarmed and died from "multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest." It is unclear at this point why Gregori Jackson ran, but two juveniles remained in the car, one of whom was the driver. Residents of Waldoboro expressed disgust over the shooting. Apparently, Officer Curtis ran over a woman in a crosswalk with his police cruiser a few weeks ago. Police officers in Waldoboro are not subjected to a psych examination prior to hiring. “There’s always room for improvement,” said the Waldoboro Police Department. “But we work with what we’ve got.” Source: http://www.mainelincolncountynews.com/index.cfm?ID=27678 Fresh copy to be cached until 10:25:53 PM
