Back in the day, George L. Houston played football for the University of Maine. After graduating in 1937, he went on to start a successful surveying and engineering firm. Now, having passed away at 91 years old, he has left a $12 million donation to UMaine, that is the largest the university has ever received in its history. The money will be used to fund a scholarship named after him.
